We are delighted to share that Fairbrook Medical Centre has been officially recognised as an RCGP Active Practice, awarded in partnership with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and Sport England.
π What Is an Active Practice?
The Active Practice Charter is an initiative that encourages GP surgeries to take practical steps to reduce sedentary behaviour and promote physical activity among patients and staff. As an accredited practice, weβve met the national criteria to show that we are committed to:
- Reducing sitting time in the workplace
- Encouraging movement throughout the day for both patients and staff
- Integrating physical activity into routine clinical care
- Building strong links with local activity providers and community resources
- Championing wellbeing in our local area
π Why It Matters
Physical activity plays a key role in the prevention and management of many long-term health conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and depression. Yet, many people find it difficult to stay active due to busy schedules, health concerns, or lack of motivation.
By becoming an Active Practice, weβre working to change that narrative- supporting our community to move more, sit less, and live well.
π©Ί What We’re Doing
As part of our commitment, Fairbrook Medical Centre has introduced the following initiatives:
- Displaying posters and digital materials promoting active lifestyles
- Discussing physical activity during health consultations, when appropriate
- Offering signposting to local walking groups, exercise classes, and social prescribing options
- Encouraging staff wellness with walking meetings and stretch breaks
- Creating an environment that supports movement, both indoors and out
